Group lessons, $120 per person per month

Two 50-minute lessons monthly with your own small group.

What I expect from students

1. You're 16 or older.

2. You have a stable internet connection and a laptop or desktop. Phones and tablets won't work for lessons.

3. After learning hiragana and katakana in the first 2-3 weeks, you'll average 5-10 new kanji or vocab words per day. I'll teach you how to use spaced repetition software.

4. You can put in 30 minutes to 1 hour of self-study per day outside lessons. That includes vocab and kanji review and grammar practice, but much of it can be immersion. In my experience, less than this won't put you on a reasonable fluency timeline.

5. I encourage students to take the JLPT N5 or N4.

How lessons work

  • All lessons are held on Discord

  • Classes are capped at 20 students

  • Structured around the Genki and Quartet textbooks at about 2-3 chapters per month

  • Kanji taught by shared components with mnemonic stories, rather than in school order

  • Reading and watching native-targeted material within 12-18 months

  • Kanji and vocab stats tracked in Jiten, reading and watching in Natively, plus an immersion tracking spreadsheet once you're readingnative material

  • All study tools and immersion materials provided free

  • Weekly optional Study Halls on Tuesday

  • Full access to the Discord community and resource library

What's different by tier

  • Classes meet weekly for 60-75 minutes, capped at 20 students, with rotating office hours afterward so everyone gets personal time with me. You keep an eye on your own stats.

  • Private and group lessons are two 50-minute sessions a month, with the curriculum adapted to your goals. I check your stats between sessions.

  • Guided study is one session a month, with a study plan to work through in between. I check your stats and adjust it as you go.
